Save yourself the frustration

The biggest issue with 550 cord is it will quickly get tangled, leaving you spending hours and extra energy managing your rat’s nest of cord. There are so many projects and ways to store 550 on your tool handles or by wrapping it neatly around items, and we will show you some of these in every issue. These are great when you are in a survival situation and that is all you have, but what about when you are just in the wilderness and you need some cord. You are not going to unwrap that neat and pretty handle on your knife or where ever you have it wrapped up. No, you spent hours wrapping and making it look good. So, how do you keep useable 550 cord in your day pack without fear of unwrapping just a foot or two? This is how, with a simple daisy chain ring. This will unwrap easily and you can just take what you need without the whole thing unwrapping.

STORE 550 and Paracord WITHOUT it GETTING TANGLED

Make circles in a clockwise direction. Take the long cord and make a single upside down U above the top of the circle. Then bring the long cord down the back cutting the circle in half.

Grab the rear cord through the center of the circle, making another U shape.

Then put that U through the U shape that you made in the first step. Pull short end tight.

Bring the long cord from the back side, up through the newest U, and pull the short end tight.

Pull the long end through the center of the circle again and bring it through the top U. Pull tight, you now have the base knot; it is just a simple matter of a daisy chain. Bring down the last U shape that you made and bring the long end around the back through the U shape. Pull the short end tight. This is when you want to make sure everything is nice and neat and tight. Repeat until you have gone around the full circle.
