ATI STRIKEFORCE SIDE-FOLDING SHOTGUN STOCK

Quickly transform your shotgun into a CQC machine

By The Staff of Trucks & Guns Media

When it is time for you to start thinking about the parts to build a shotgun that fits your needs, one of the most important pieces is a comfortable stock. A stock that works with all the other accessories you have planned for your build. When picking out our stock we look to ATI Stocks as they have a range of different styles to choose from that will fit our specific needs. Everything from your traditional stocks with upgraded recoil pads to folding stocks to adjustable tactical stocks. We decided to try out their Strikeforce Side-Folding Shotgun Stock because it had all the bells and whistles, which would allow us to try out everything all at once to decide what features we like and which may not be necessary for our build.

OUR GOAL

We want to ensure Our Mossberg 500 will be a quick home defense shotgun that we can grab and clear any threats that may have entered our home or come onto our property. We want to be able to have a comfortable stock that will work with a red dot sight later on down the road. It also needs to be able to quickly adjust to fit me or my wife, and will also be outfitted with a flashlight and extra shell storage on the firearm.

OUT OF THE BOXES

When the ATI Strikeforce Side-Folding Shotgun Stock showed up at our door, we were immediately impressed with the quality of the unit. It is made with a DuPont® Extreme Temperature Glass Reinforced Polymer. The recoil pad was thick and good density. The stock extension operated smoothly with a large spring-loaded latch and it locked into place with very little slack. The pistol grip was very comfortable with indents for your finger and on the back of the grip is a soft rubber material to help absorb recoil. It came with two different size cheek rest to customize the fit, however, its worth noting that you can also use it without an extended cheek rest. We found the taller one to be too tall when using the factory sights and our TruGlo sights, but when we get the RedDot on there we will want the taller cheek well. There is also a hole in the stock for adding a sling. The folding stock has grooves in both the open and closed positions to lock the stock in place and holds tight while the button to operate the folding stock uses a large spring to hold the stock into the grooves. When you press the button down it pushes the stock down out of the grooves allowing it to swing into the other position and into another set of locking grooves.

AFTER SHOOTING

While using this stock, the thick recoil pads make this 12 gauge kick like a 20 gauge. The ATI Scorpion X2 Recoil pads are very impressive and a long day of training is nothing for your shoulder. After a few times, you can get into a flow and mae very quick transitions from folded stock to extended stock. We found it quicker to get the cheek well where we wanted it with the help of a friend. The adjustable stocks also made it so that my wife and I to easily trade off shooting this shotgun comfortably, achieving my main goal for the stock. The recoil pads are a very nice bonus on this stock, however, found after running drill in our house, that the folding stock is not necessary for our particular needs. If this was going to be a shotgun I kept in my truck, though and I was concerned about making vehicle transition, the folding stock would be more important.

We will be trading this out for the ATI T3 TactLite Shotgun Stock that has all the adjustability we need and still includes the thick recoil pads for comfort. This will allow us to save a little weight and we will put the folding stock on a truck shotgun. The ATI T3 TactLite Shotgun Stocks are available for most of the major shotgun brands and the folding stocks are available for Mossberg, Remington, and Winchester 12 gauge shotguns.

For our needs, we found that we did not need to stock to fold, therefore we will be getting the ATI T3 TactLite Shotgun Stock that has most of the same features as the Strikeforce Side-Folding Shotgun Stock without the folding feature.
